Free Help with Exam Prep for Non-Native English Speakers in College
For many families, this time of year might be the first time a son or
daughter returns home from their first semester at college or university. …
Students share stories of adjusting to dorm life, dining hall food, new friends and, of course, a completely new learning experience.
For non-native speakers of English, studying at a higher education institution where English is the language of instruction presents an additional challenge that their native speaking classmates don’t face. Being well prepared to communicate effectively in English can help students adapt successfully to the higher education experience.
Help for the Non-Native English Speaker in College
Pearson has developed a number of resources to help non-native English speakers improve their English communication skills. These resources will help students prepare to succeed on the newly-launched Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) and communicate effectively in an academic setting. PTE Academic is a computer-based test that accurately measures real-life language ability through the use of tasks that require test takers to produce language during the test session.
We know that teachers are important influencers in helping non-native English speakers with their communication skills. In last month’s article, we highlighted several of new resources available for teachers, including The Official Guide to PTE Academic and our online Skills Pod for test takers and teachers.
A New Online Community
In order to be truly successful in learning English, it is also important that students engage with their peers who are also learning English. To support this, we are offering an online community for students and test takers.
Our Test Taker Community
contains forums for students around the world to share their ideas and experiences while preparing to take PTE Academic. Pearson’s resident “Doctor English” is also on hand to answer any language learning queries. And now, for a limited time only, we are offering a free unscored practice test with feedback (normally $25.00) for students who register for the community.
